February 25, 2025, Shanghai – Today, the New Zealand Tourism Board teamed up with renowned travel culture brand Shicha Island to release the New Zealand episode of their “Earth Lecture” short film series. Featuring acclaimed artist Huang Jue as a special guest, this episode delves into New Zealand’s natural beauty and cultural allure through his unique viewpoint, guiding viewers on an enchanting adventure through the “Land of the Long White Cloud.”
In this short film, Huang Jue uses a humorous yet profound storytelling approach to highlight New Zealand’s purity from various perspectives—geography, nature, wildlife, and culture. Viewers will journey through his lens across the contrasting natural landscapes of the North and South Islands, encountering rare flora and fauna along the way. They will experience New Zealand’s grandeur and vitality while delving into the cultural essence behind the “simple life” led by its people. This short film is not just a visual delight but also a soulful journey. The New Zealand Tourism Board aims to create a deep emotional connection with every viewer through this film. Despite today’s fast-paced life, New Zealand remains a place where one can slow down and savor simplicity and relaxation.

In Huang Jue’s opinion, New Zealand’s “simplicity” comes from its environment and the conscious choices of its people. “Throwing all worries or unhappiness behind you—this phrase encapsulates a spirit that is quintessentially New Zealand.” On this simple and pristine land, Huang Jue embarked on an extraordinary journey. From treading on solid glaciers and touching deep blue ice caves to standing by an observation deck at dusk to witness the enchanting return of little blue penguins, these varied experiences made the trip “diverse, complex, and layered,” turning it into a meaningful exploration.

This trip was also Huang Jue’s first solo adventure with his son Walnut. Together in New Zealand, they explored its multifaceted charm. Under Lake Tekapo’s starry sky, they marveled at the brilliant Milky Way of the southern hemisphere and felt the vastness of space; they rode Christchurch’s vintage tram through this historic city while enjoying street views and listening to guides recount stories about Christchurch’s revival; they took an alpine scenic train from Christchurch through snow-capped mountains, canyons, and forests—quietly appreciating breathtaking views outside their window during this peaceful journey; in Hobbiton (a filming location for “The Lord of the Rings”), they bent down to enter Hobbit houses as if stepping into a magical movie world.
Huang Jue shared in an interview: “I’m delighted that we chose New Zealand for our father-son trip. The tranquility here allowed us to deepen our bond in a relaxed setting.” These heartwarming moments not only enhanced their understanding of New Zealand but also showcased its allure as a family travel destination.

The short film has been released on the official social media accounts of Time Difference Island and the New Zealand Tourism Board. The audience will get to see a different side of New Zealand—one that showcases not only its stunning natural landscapes but also its warm hospitality and laid-back lifestyle.
